In the myth of Noah’s flood, God was supposedly sending a message, “If you keep on sinning I will kill you.” After the flood people went right back to living as they had before. God failed. Then he painted himself in a corner by saying he would not kill every sinner again. You’d have to say those ancient writers who made up what God was supposed to have said were not the brightest porch lights on the block.
Someone has compiled 200 myths about floods. There probably were thousands more. Early humans had to live along water like other animals. Thus, they experienced floods that went as far as they could see. They concluded the entire world was flooded. Stories about what the floods meant must be as old as humans.
In the flood myths studied 88% saved a favored family. They were on a boat in 70% of the stories. Two-thirds of the stories said the flood came because of the wickedness of man. Over have of the stories found the boat coming to rest on a mountain. Nearly all of these stories existed before the Noah story so that raises suspicion of its origin.
The god in the Noah story is a bad guy billboard for those against the Christian religion. He is cruel beyond comprehension.
The Noah character himself is not much better. He just listens to his orders and carries them out without protesting the injustice.
I hope future religions have better myths.
