Trump Reflects A Distinctive Branch Of Christianity

Among the millions of words published everyday about Donald Trump, there is little analysis of the Christianity he represents. His words and actions mirror quite precisely this branch. The believers in this branch might be on their knees thanking the almighty for sending a President who matches their religious convictions with their politics.

A first theological principle of evangelical Trump supporters is the wedding of church and state. This is imposing the theological ideas of white evangelicals onto the entire population. Anti abortion and gay marriage are star witnesses.

A second theological principle is that power is good. Power is evidence of God’s approval. Cheers go up when a group on the outside, those who want abortion rights or gay marriage, are harmed by the preferences of the President.

A third is that God’s acceptance of people is limited. If you are a group on the outside of this acceptance it is fine for evangelicals to insult and enact prejudices against you. This especially is true if you are poor or among less powerful groups including women.

Forth, the ends justify the means. Yes, Trump is a jerk who lies, cheats on wives and stiffs those to whom he owes money. This does not matter because he will appoint anti abortion judges and insult those we do not like.

As we can see, this is not traditional conservative political thinking. Conservative thinking is keeping government small which is not mentioned above. Equal opportunity for every citizen is not mentioned either.

I suspect Trump uses religion for the sake of convenience, much as Hitler did. It just does not pass the smell test.

Before the election, I posted : “If you think Nixon had an enemies list, wait until you see Trump’s”.

Maybe I did not make myself clear enough. What I wrote about is not Trump’s religion,”Trump Reflects a Distinctive Branch..” His is the prosperity gospel. I wrote about those who support him.

@ 9;53; Jon; I know what you wrote, and what you meant. Hitler too, had a prosperity gospel, (small g.) Many followed him to the end, and I suspect the same with Trump. Only in Trump’s case, his followers haven’t a clue what real desperation is. Post WW1 Germans did. It’s a matter of discernment. Sooner, if not later.

Catcher, I completely agree with you. He uses whatever he possibly can to persuade/bully others to bend to his will. He cares about no one but himself and his money. His so called presidency is corrupt, immoral, chaotic and just may bring our country to its knees.

@ 10;09 I’m not so concerned that he can bring our country to its knees internally. The balance of powers will prevent that. What does concern me is how his chaotic distractions can affect the world economy, Korea, Iran, Russia, and China. Even our allies.

Is there any truth in the rumour that “President” will be changed to “Ayatollah” for the next election.
