Christians say often today they are persecuted. It is true there are Christians imprisoned in a few countries and being driven out of others. Atheists in these same countries are probably most always worse off, though there may be exceptions.
Christians in the U. S. dominate its politics and judgeships. To say the faith is persecuted in these areas of U. S. life is simply absurd. There are few atheists at any level in these professions. Yet, people who do not identify with any religion are one of the largest groups after Christianity.
Few would know this, but one place it is tough to be an atheist is in the area of advertising. It is not always possible to go to a private firm that sells advertising and purchase it. Billboard signs is one of these.
In some states, atheist groups have been able to make large billboard buys. The signs have received publicity and have been successful. They have been followed sometimes by Christian purchases and sign companies have been happy.
This has not happened in the small metro area where I live. A couple of attempts have been made by national atheist organizations to buy space. The response has been, “We do not think that kind of advertisement is right for this area.”
The same thing happened in Mormon heavy Utah. Attempts were made and guess the answer, “We do not think that kind of advertisement is….”
These are private companies who can choose their customers. They choose not to have atheists on their signs.
