The Democrats Need More Rick Perrys.

For those who don’t follow U. S. politics, Rick Perry is a Republican and the Governor of Texas.  He wears his Christianity on his sleeve.  This weekend he will speak to a group about why the Boy Scouts of America should continue to ban gay boys.

What I’m saying is the best thing for Democrats is for Republican political figures clearly identified as Republicans, like Perry is, to keep bashing gays.  I’m not saying it is a good thing for gays, but it will help Democrats.

While we’re not there yet, we are approaching a time when saying gays should be banned from an organization is like saying black children should go to different schools than white children.  Perry sounds almost that out of touch.

It will help Democrats as well if the Republican platform includes strong language against gay marriage and defines human life as beginning with conception.  When the primary season gets in full swing, bigger thinkers in the Party will have their hands full trying to tamp down on the message religion trumps all.

Helpful to the country, however, would be a Republican Party with secular and up to date thinking.  If both Parties were competing to see which can better harness the ambitions of every citizen all boats would rise.

The Republican Party thinks it holds the franchise against sin.  Rick Perry does not recognize judgements about sin are arbitrary and the public is losing interest.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the reality based wing deals with the Tea Party wing in the long run. There are 2 choices – either allow the far right wing to take over and devolve into extinction, or ditch the far right and risk them splitting off into third party that would ruin their electoral chances just about as much.

One thing is certain: there is very little chance that the far right wing will ever abandon their radical ideology. It’s all they have.

      • entech says:

Sleeping? Too much scripture will do that to you. Kills any interest in the real world.
Don’t know anything about local politics, but I would imagine that anything Brad (or Jon or almost anyone to the left of Genghis Khan) might say would turn into a soporific as it passed through the sieve of scripture.

They have huge problems and it seems to be the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about.

      • Henry says:

Not as huge as the democrat party and its current head. Has anyone noticed the complexion of our esteemed CIC? I would say he has gained 10 years of youth in his 4+ years of CIC. He looks good. Most presidents by this time look a little weary from the work load and attention to responsibilities. Obamba looks good. He has been taking care of himself well.

      • Henry says:

Elephant in the room? No one cares about elephants in rooms anymore.

So, dope not mentioned Bible as an abomination does that mean it should be legal?

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

When I was in Hong Kong during the famous R&R days I saw young American serviceman wearing T-Shirts with the image of a marijuana leaf and the writing “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb” and then in bigger print “overruled by a higher authority”.

          • Henry says:

            1. Render unto Caeser. No pot, please, not even for a CIC.

            2. The modern day pothead would not even touch the native pot. Not enough GMO THC.

            3. Modern day pot consumption = drunkardness.

          • entech says:

So you are the higher authority that does the overruling.

            Talk about idolatry.

          • Henry says:

            I didn’t write the rules.

You are relying on the rules, past the point of their intent and to the point other rules being abridged. I know you can’t help yourself with your black-and-white analysis.

          • Henry says:

P.S. I am very idolatrous. However, I have Christ.

          • entech says:

Still trying to work out when scripture applies and when it doesn’t. Most bible books are printed in black and white.

Seems to depend on your approval.

So you are the higher authority that does the overruling.

            Thank you for the confirmation.

          • Henry says:

entech:“Still trying to work out when scripture applies and when it doesn’t.”

Your works are as filthy rags (hemp variety).

If you were to drive down to Mac’s in your 4×4 pickup truck, you could have a pallet of hemp rope loaded in the back, perhaps upon special order. If you were to smoke the entire pallet, you would undoubtedly become drunk/high. If you were to smoke an 1/8 of the hemp rope, you would only have a foul taste in your mouth. If you were to smoke an 1/8 of what most people know as marijuana, you would become drunken from the GMO enhanced and concentrated THC levels. You are making this complicated in an attempt to discredit scripture by conveniently glossing over the details.

          • Avatar of Jon Lindgren Jon Lindgren says:

Henry 1:03 “If you were to drive down to Macs..”

To people not from around here, Macs is store piled high with stuff they bought from other stores going out of business–bulk stuff, huge amounts of ropes, chains, bolt, tools, etc.

I’m glad to know Jesus would shop there, as do I, because the hemp rope they sell will not make you as high as street hemp.

          • Henry says:

Whether Jesus would shop there or not was not the point.

  2. Henry says:

Jon:“gays should be banned from an organization”

No gay boyscouts or scoutmasters. Please.

  3. Avatar of Kevin Kevin says:

What is the legal determination of “gayness?”

  4. Barbara says:

I’m still waiting for the day when the Republican Sin Monitors address the issues of greed and apathy. Still waiting….and waiting……….

    • Henry says:

No worries. We have Jon, the main stream news media, and the current form of the democrat party (sorry to all you FDR and JFK types, you’ll have to wait another century for the party to get back to where it was).

  5. Michael Ross says:

At what age can a boy join Scouts? About 11? At that age boys, gay or straight, should not be sexually active. Therefore I don’t believe it should be an issue. Sort of like “don’t ask, don’t tell”. Let them join and keep sexuality private. A positive masculine role model of older scouts and adult leaders my cause a young man to identify himself as a man and not a strange little birdie.

“Rick Perry does not recognize judgments about sin are arbitrary and the public is losing interest.”

If this is so then a private organization like the Scouts should be able to determine its own policy without all the media hype and condemnation of this 100 year old organization for not bowing to the PC crowd. It takes no courage to go along with the prevailing sentiment of moral relativity that changes with the whims of societal manipulators from Hollywood, politicians, and academia. Jason Collins received only praise for his “courage” in coming out. The ESPN reporter that was critical received scorn as a “bigot’ and “hatemonger” and may lose his job for holding to traditional moral values. Tell me, who is showing courage?

My son, an Eagle Scout, recently started a job as a Scout District Executive. Its a great job for him and he loves it. My fear is that the powerful gay influence with corporate supporters would ruin this great organization that has helped millions of boys over a century if they don’t bow to their new agenda and he will be out a job. The powerful homosexual juggernaut is as selfish as it is perverted.

A Scout is: physically strong, mentally awake, and morally STRAIGHT

      JASON COLLINS!

  6. Brad says:

The Democratic party needs more Henrys and Michael Rosses. That type of mentality will drive people away from the GOP in droves.

  7. Keep Fighting Sioux says:

Red River Freethinkers? Yeak. OK. Whatever…

    • Michael Ross says:

Free to think perverted thoughts. Just don’t get on the wrong side of the Homofascists or the Gaystopo like the ESPN reporter.

      • Henry says:

        MR:“Homofascists or the Gaystopo”

Very correct terms. I may have to borrow the use of those terms in the future.

        • entech says:

Of course, anything to avoid thinking for yourself. :)

” Broussard said Tuesday that as a Christian he does not agree with homosexuality and that Collins, who came out as a gay man, is “walking in open rebellion to God and Jesus Christ” by being gay.”

Sounds like he was paraphrasing Psalm 12:8:

“The wicked strut about on every side When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.”

      • Brad says:

I’ll take a “homofascist” or a “gaystopo” over a Corporate Fascist or a Religious Communist any day. At least the gay agenda doesn’t involve forcing women to have children they don’t want, and then trying to destroy their lives the minute they are born.

        • Avatar of realist realist says:

Here, here. Your analysis was correct, Brad. The GOP is going the way of the No-nothing party. Unless there are vast changes in their agenda which is not likely, they are becoming unelectable except in gerrymandered districts and in the ultra conservative states. At the national level, they are in desperate shape. The Rick Perry’s of the GOP are sinking the ship.
